Tips to consider when completing applications for craft markets

We often get asked 'How do I get accepted?' or 'What did I do wrong?' so we thought we would share some of our top tips to consider when applying for markets

*When describing your craft imagine you are being interviewed by the local press. Don't be shy to tell us why you love creating, what makes you passionate about what you do and unique.

For example "I run a fabric store that sells fabric and craft" compared with "The Make Cafe is about creativity and community, providing the tools and environment for crafters to express their talents, selling a wide variety of fabric and craft supplies."

If ever you don't have enough space in the fields, email these across independently.

*Use good images, place your item on a sheet of white card or paper and try to capture natural light without a flash. Create collages of images so we can see the extent of your craft.

Again, if you can't link these up, or want to send us more of a selection email these across independently.

*Be yourself and be unique, as a creative person you are in a great position to showcase this. If you want your application to stand out from the others think about which category you fit into and how you can tell us or make your item unique from others.

*We look for strong designers who are the top of their field, but we also look for new talent. So look at how you sell your Point of Difference, especially if you are in a category abundant with other designers, we want to know what your point of difference is, why should you be picked over the others. Sell us your story.

There are a vast array of applicants who come from a vast array of disciplines, all vying for a limited number of spaces. Keep that in mind when you present your application.

If you have any tips and suggestions to help others, please do share them below!

Good luck, and if you have any questions please ask, we (Kirsty, Bronwyn, Justin and Hazel) will always be happy to help where ever we can.
